The Hakalau Post Office not only serves the town of Hakalau, but also the town of Wailea just on the west side of the main Beltline Road. The Hakalau Post Office has become a valuable asset to the communtiy by providing not only mail and package delivery, but it is an essential communication hub for the local residents, where information is shared and helps provide a community bond.
Hakalau, Hawaii US Post Office is a unique post office as it it resides in a small sugar plantation town that dates back to the late 1800's. The original post office was located just down the on the east side of the old highway, aproximately a 1000' north next to two, still present sugar plantation wharehouses that date back to the same construction time of 1920. Unfortunately, the original Hakalau post office was dismantled in the late 20th century and the equally historic "Hakalau Theater" is now used to house the present Hakalau U.S. Post Office.
